Who Should Attend?

All (Primary and Secondary) Teachers

This workshop is designed to introduce strategies applicable to every subject area that uses reading as a means of learning.
At the end of the workshop the participants will be able to:
• Define critical reading
• Identify the concept of the interrelatedness of the language skills (reading, writing, talking and listening) in an interactive classroom
• List teacher verbal behaviors which elicits critical responses from students.
• Identify techniques for developing critical reading skills in students.
• Outline an action plan for developing critical reading skills

Workshop Facilitator
Bushra Ahmed-Khurram is a lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Karachi. She holds an MA in English Linguistics and English Literature from Karachi University.

She has been an English Language and Literature panelist on the Aga Khan University Examination Board. She has also worked for the Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development as a researcher. She has been a SPELT Academic Coordinator and a Master Trainer at Teachers’ Development Centre. She specializes in training courses based on practical activities for Language Teachers in Pakistani classrooms. She has conducted ELT workshops in Lahore, Quetta, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Hyderabad, Abbottabad, Multan, Sui, Daharki and Karachi. She is the author of 40 Great Books and Options 1. Her articles on
education frequently appear in DAWN.
